A little homesick

When you miss home, you don’t have to pretend you’re used to it

You come back to a rented room, switch on the light yourself, and eat dinner alone. On calls home you always say “I’m doing fine”, and then after hanging up you suddenly miss that old dinner table, the street you walked for years, and the feeling of someone waiting for you to come back.

Missing home doesn’t mean you aren’t independent enough

Leaving a familiar place takes a lot of strength. Missing home means there are people and things there that you care about, and they still hold a place in you. You don’t have to push this feeling down or prove that you have “settled in” first.

Leave a window open for missing them

Outside the Seaside Loft window is the sea, like a long distance, and also like there is always a way back. Listen to the waves for a while, or write the things you want to tell your family, the ones that always come out as “I’m fine”, on a bedside note and fold it away so it stays only on your device. You can also read what earlier guests left behind. If missing home weighs on you and affects your sleep or daily life, it may help to talk with someone you trust or a professional.

No account, no name, and you can leave whenever you like.
